Categories of data processed
Depending on the feature used, DeafNews may process:
- technical browsing data, security logs, IP address, user-agent, requested page, date and time of access;
- browser-side preferences, including cookie consent, theme selection and client-side authentication state;
- data voluntarily provided for registration, email verification, login, newsletter and account management;
- user-generated content such as comments, newsletter preferences, editorial requests or reports;
- technical subscription data required for push notifications, if the user enables them;
- measurement and advertising data only for optional services activated with consent.
Cookies, local storage and Google services
The site uses cookies and similar browser storage technologies to provide the service, remember consent choices and maintain optional user sessions.
Where enabled in the site configuration, non-essential services such as Google Analytics and Google AdSense are loaded only after explicit consent for analytics or advertising purposes. Operational details are available in the Cookie Policy.
Purposes of processing
- to publish editorial content and keep the site working correctly;
- to protect the platform, accounts, APIs and infrastructure from abuse, failures and malicious activity;
- to manage registration, login, email verification, comments, newsletters and user-requested notifications;
- to measure site usage and improve navigation and content, including aggregated tools or consent-based services where required;
- to comply with legal obligations, authority requests or the defence of rights.
Legal basis
- performance of pre-contractual steps or the requested service for accounts, newsletters, comments, verification flows and optional notifications;
- legitimate interest for security, abuse prevention, technical logging, maintenance and service continuity;
- user consent for analytics, advertising and other non-essential processing where applicable.
Retention
- technical and security logs are kept for the time strictly necessary to protect and troubleshoot the platform;
- account data is retained while the account remains active and for the period needed to handle legal obligations or disputes;
- newsletter and marketing preferences are retained until withdrawal or unsubscribe;
- comments and user submissions remain published or archived for as long as needed for the service, moderation or site protection;
- consent records and preferences may be retained to document the user's choice and avoid unnecessary repeat prompts.
Recipients and transfers
Data may be processed by technical providers supporting hosting, email, analytics, push notifications, moderation, advertising or site security, always within the scope needed to deliver the service.
If some providers operate outside the European Economic Area, processing is carried out using safeguards compatible with applicable law, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Within the limits set by the GDPR, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability and withdrawal of consent for consent-based processing.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.
